How to Make Paper Mache
Egyptian Sarcophagus Paper Mache Project Instructions
Cut the cardboard into 4 rectangles that should make up a long coffin-like box and tape them together. Make sure to add a cover that hinges. This will be the top of the sarcophagus that will have the most detail (can be life-size or small and you).
Cut or tear newspaper into strips (you can add balls of newspaper to pop out the head area of the sarcophagus).
Cover each strip of newspaper with paper mache and completely cover the cardboard box.
Once everything is dry use acrylic or tempera paint to paint your sarcophagus gold and any color you want.
Have the children learn how to spell their names in hieroglyphics and sign their sarcophagus.
Egyptian Mummy Paper Mache Instructions
Crumple the newspaper into balls.
Tape the balls of newspaper together to form a mummy.
Tear strips of newspaper.
Cover each strip of newspaper with paper mache and completely cover your mummy.
Once everything is dry use acrylic or tempera paint to paint your mummy any color you want.
